PE at Whitesides
WES students participate in 6 special area classes including art, music, PE, STEAM, computer and library! These 1st graders are showing off their ball skills during PE.
Reading Passport Celebration
We celebrated our new Reading Passport Program with a Patio Popcorn Party for students who have completed the first milestone in the program. Eight students were recognized for reading at least five of the 20 Passport Books. Congratulations Alice, Cooper, Harrison, Liam, James, Evan, Rachel and August!
The Reading Passport program was created for students in fourth and fifth grades to encourage them to continue reading for fun by exploring a variety of book genres. Students receive a passport stamp for each book they read and can earn prizes after reading 5, 10 and all 20 books. There will be another Patio Popcorn Party in February for students who are still working to complete 5 books.
Teacher of the Year!
Congratulations to our 2025-26 Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Suzi Carter! Mrs. Carter teaches 4th grade at Whitesides. We are so grateful for all she does for our students and our school!
SC Ready Perfect Score
Congratulations to these students who scored a perfect score on the SC Ready diagnostic test in at least one area!
Wildcats Love Author Visits!
Our school recently hosted an author visit for all 3rd-5th graders with Chad Morris and Shelly Brown. Chad and Shelly wrote the Wild Adventures of Juniper Berry, which was a SC Book Award Nominee this year. In addition, all 5th grade students completed a novel study of the book.
We also heard about some of their other other books including Mustaches for Maddie, The Playmakers, Willia and the Whale and more! We loved hearing about how they had to have GRIT to become published authors. It was such an encouraging message and upbeat presentation for our students!
This author visit was paid for by funds raised during our Fall book fair - THANK YOU to everyone who shopped with us and helped make this incredible opportunity possible for our students.
PTA Hosts StarLab Visit for Students
Each month the Whitesides PTA hosts a Fun Friday event for students. Recently, they hosted a visit from the StarLab! During the visit, Beth McCarty, of Science Adventures Everywhere, took students on a journey to outer space where they learned about the moon and sun and common constellations in our night sky!
